What Are the Different Types of APIs and How Do They Work?

API blog hero

Have you ever considered how many different types of APIs there are? API types usually refer to access types (open, partner, private, and public) or to design patterns (RPC, REST, SOAP, and GraphQL, for example).

In this blog post, we discuss:

How Prismatic supports complex requirements for specific third-party apps

Libby splash for specific requirements
  • Shopify requires that your customers initiate the installation process of your app from Shopify (rather than from your marketplace). This video shows how your frontend app can receive a Shopify installation request, programmatically create an instance of your integration in Prismatic, and complete the OAuth flow with custom redirects.
  • Some apps, notably Slack, Dropbox and HubSpot, do not have customer-specific webhooks. Instead, all events are sent to a single endpoint, and these apps expect the receiving server to route the events to the correct customer. This article and video show how you can handle single-endpoint webhook integrations in Prismatic.
  • Example integrations show how to leverage Amazon SNS to listen for changes to files in S3 and Google's Pub/Sub service to listen for new emails in a user's Gmail inbox.
